Isa.55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither my ways your ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” As we can see, God has his own logic.

Is there such a thing as biblical logic? And if so, how well do we believers fare in utilizing it?

Logic is defined as the science of reasoning, a reasoning based on either inductive or deductive methods. Logic sees the outcome of an action based on that type of action, an action based on our type of reasoning, whether it is of human or divine origin. God’s logic tells us why we get the results we get based on our thinking behind our actions, good or bad. Gal.5:7-8 read...

Inductive methods bring forth many areas of thought pertaining to a subject. Many angles are presented. In other words you weigh various scenarios into your thinking.

Deductive methods tend to eliminate any thinking you think to not be pertinent to your train of thought on a given subject.

Your reasoning or logic comes about by you personally utilizing these methods of screening the outcome of your thoughts; the thoughts that motivate your actions. In other words do we think about what we are doing, about what lays ahead if we continue in our present way of thinking? Ps.119:105 says “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and light unto my path.”

If we do not know the Bible then God is not the one lighting our path in life. If God’s word is not illuminating our thinking, then what is?

As a pastor and a theology major I see teaching systematic theology from the pulpit as a unique way of explaining the Divine logic; the thinking of God. To see as God sees on so many things such as his existence, the creation, the fall of man, the plan of redemption, the plan of God for the ages, which we call dispensationalism, we thus study the Bible. We study the person God as seen in the Trinity, we study the angels, mankind, sin, Soteriology [the study of salvation]; we study Ecclesiology [the structure of the church with is mission, its message and its Master] ; we study Eschatology [things to come as given in God’s prophetic word]; we study Christology [the unique person of our Lord Jesus Christ]; Pneumatology [the Holy Spirit] and other various God inspired revelations. All of these teachings define for us God’s logic and as believers we need to latch on to His logic, his thinking. In doing so we can see through the veneer the world puts on problems, and we can see God’s answers as to why things are the way they are and why people, including ourselves, are the way we are.

If we are not biblical thinkers when calamity comes we will also follow the mass of our population that panics when the bubble bursts, whether it is a personal problem, or it is a national problem. If we as believers let those who are blind of God’s logic lead us in their way of thinking and actions we will both fall in the ditch. Why do so many in the church think like the world thinks? Because they do not know what God thinks; they are not taught God’s word. Many believers do not expect to be taught the word of God especially on Sunday morning in the main worship service.

As Christians we must constantly gage our thoughts against God’s thoughts. We must be mindful to find God’s divine reasoning, and adjust to it, Isa.55:8-9. God will not adjust to our thinking; he only encourages us to except his point of view.

Making the mental adjustments to the divine point of view is biblically logical because..

If we look at the benefits of obeying God’s word, it is only logical that we would obey, because the final outcome is sure to bless us. God will never curse you or discipline you for obeying his word

It is only logical we would want to please God, and that we would work in harmony to please God. It is only logical that we would have godly sorrow when we sin, and that we would confess it as soon as we recognize it.

If we look at the consequences for disobeying God’s word it is only logical that we would do everything we could to know his word so as to know when we are sinning, Ps.119:11.

According to the Apostle Paul as he writes in I Thess.5:23 we are to allow God to sanctify us wholly, that is fill us up with his divine standards so as to preserve our spirit, soul and body as blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The element I have left out up to this point is that we all have free will before and after salvation. When our free will overrides divine logic; that is God’s divine revelation, then all of our logic is drawn from a totally different pool of ideas and thoughts. It is what the Bible calls, the old man, the world, spiritual darkness, the children of disobedience, a stiff neck people, a rebellious people, a wayward people, people who walk in the vanity or emptiness of their minds, people yet in bondage, and herein lies the brain trust for the world.

When we pick the word of God for our main course on Sunday morning or at any other meeting time then we have picked the better course. From Lk.10:38-42 Jesus Christ told Mary she had picked the better dish when she picked his word over her physical wants as Martha had done. Which dish will you pick? Please remember the dish you pick tells your spouse and your children where your priorities are, for where a man’s treasure is there is his heart also. I know the Lord calls his people to his word and this is why we make the word of God the centerpiece of this local church. We make belief in Jesus Christ as the crucified, risen Savior the foundation for all of our worship to God.
