“Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, lo I am with you always, even unto the end of the age.”
These final verses in the last chapter of the first gospel placed in the Canon of Holy Scriptures are without a doubt some of the most quoted in Bible believing churches. We know we have been given a great commission by our Lord. Churches as well as individual believers have carried this message all over the world. And not only are we to carry this message all over the globe, but we are also to carry it to our neighbor.
This message is centralized in Jn.3:16 “For God so loved the world, [the place where we are to carry the great commission] that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
This gospel message of which we are commissioned to tell everyone is defined in
I Cor.15:1-4. “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and in which ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he arose again the third day according to the scriptures.” If you believe this you will be saved. Will you trust God to save you?
We must not add anything to this message. We must not add works, [the raising of the hand or the running of the church aisle]. We must not add ritual [baptism], or human effort of any kind to this message. We must keep it simple, because it is simple. The truth that we need salvation from our sins is self-evident. We have all witnessed the ravages of sin. We have all seen, said, or thought things of which we know God is not pleased. And so we must all acknowledge that we have all sinned and have come short of the glory of God, Rom.3:23.
If we acknowledge this about ourselves then we must understand that the wages of our sin is death. God is holy and He will not permit sin to enter heaven. If we die in our sins without Christ’s forgiveness then we will die condemned. However, the good news; the gospel news is that God gave His Son to die for our sins so that we would not perish. The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Rom.6:23.
The gospel news then is that Christ died for us; He was buried, and He arose the third day according to the scriptures. Accepting the Jesus Christ of the Bible as your Savior means you have acknowledged your sin. It means you have told God you want forgiveness for your sins. It means you have told God you accept who Jesus Christ is, and what He did for you in His death, burial and resurrection for your salvation.
God forgives you and accepts you into His heavenly family forever. He sees you in Jesus Christ and He sees Jesus Christ in you. In salvation you have become a new creation because of what Christ did for you, not for any thing you may have done. People who accept Jesus Christ, whether they are white, black, yellow, red or any color in between are a new creation in Christ. All of our sins, past, present and future are all covered by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. Our salvation is complete in Jesus Christ and our eternal destiny is based on what He did for us, not what we can do for Him.
Whether you are born as an Islander, or on one of the continents of Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, or Australia; you must accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. He is the Savior for the entire world, II Tim.4:10.
Missionaries continue to go out to the people of the world, and the message has to remain as simple, and clear as it was the first time it was given.
People of every nation are coming to Jesus Christ for salvation. It makes no difference what their tongue and culture is. It makes no difference whether they come from a Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, pagan, or cultist background. It makes no difference if they are rich or poor. People from every part of the world are being saved every day. People are turning to Christ and from sin.
The number may be small compared to the world population which is nearing the seven billion mark, but the offer is still the same, “whosoever will may come.” Men and women, boys and girls are taking God up on His offer of salvation.
Believers in Christ who are keeping the Great Commission are still excited about souls coming to Christ. They are still telling others about the Lord. Local churches are still supporting gospel missionaries, and local churches are still calling Bible preaching men to fill their pulpits, and edify their congregations for the glory of God.
Has someone told you lately how much God loves you, and wants you to be saved from your sins, and to live with Him forever after death? If they have not, let me tell you that He does love you, however, His love alone cannot save us, thus He gave us His Son, Jesus Christ as a sacrifice for our sins. Jesus Christ is God’s only sinless acceptable covering for our sins.
Will you say yes to Jesus Christ this day? Will you let Him take your sin burdens away, and will you let Him take the burdens of your heart upon Himself. “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” Matt.11:28
My prayer is that if you have not received Jesus Christ as your Savior, that you will not put off this most important decision. It is the decision that holds eternal consequences. This decision is more important than any financial decision you will ever make. It is the most important relationship decision you will ever make. Though marriage and having children is the most precious earthly relationship we can have, it is still second to an eternal forgiven relationship we can have with God.
Coming to Jesus Christ is the decision that opens doors of understanding, forgiveness and inner peace. If you have not, will you join the family of God today?
And, if so, will you join other believers in telling others what Jesus Christ has done for you?
God bless you.
