Staying Intact in Spiritual Minefields

As Christians we need all the grace of God we can receive to succeed for Him in this world. Brethren it is only in Jesus Christ that we are able to make it. Our Lord said in promoting the grace of God: “I am the vine, you are the branches. He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without me you can do nothing.” John 15:5.

This statement by our Lord smacks at the human ego like an open hand to the face, but it is true. We need God.

Why do you suppose the grace of God is so ardently opposed by mankind? It seems that people would want all the help they could get, and the grace of God is plentiful and it is available to help at any given moment of the day or night.

Grace offers forgiveness of sin, peace of mind, eternal life and much more. Grace defines the giving nature and the goodness of God. “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared unto all men.” Titus 2:11

The grace of God is opposed by the unbeliever through their rejection of Jesus Christ. Human good, unbelief, legalism, and the sin nature stand in unison against the grace of God. Men and women, boys and girls, reject the goodness of God as found in the person of Christ Jesus. What is it that is so deplorable about the Savior? Why is he such a stumbling block to billions of people? I believe it is because without Him we can do nothing, and this upsets people. Their pride blinds their own need for salvation and deliverance.

The grace of God is opposed by the believer as well. Many believers have given up on maturing in the faith. Developing virtue love by growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ is just too foreign for a self serving people.

Many have thrown in the towel because they were disappointed in their life for some reason. Some have claimed their will is not strong enough to resist the sin nature. Others have substituted their talents in place of the grace of God. And others have exalted their religious legalism above the grace of God.

It appears that many believers and unbelievers alike do not see the merits of God’s grace. However, let it be known that no one steals the grace of God from us. We foolishly turn it down. We allow our deceitful sin nature to corrupt what God says is best for us.

The deceitfulness of sin is more than the spiritually immature believer can imagine. This deceitfulness is fed by the lack of biblical knowledge and impatience of the immature believer.

To aid in the success of the deceitful sin nature is the emotional appeal from non-doctrinal teaching churches where activities motivate the convert to Christ to run out into sin ridden minefields without proper training. The world with all of its broad paths of destruction along with the sin nature and our cosmic foe, Satan, has strategically placed destructive mines everywhere.

There are so many discouraged, disheartened and ambivalent believers who have been maimed and mutilated by sin. They have ignored the grace of God and have gone out on their own trying to pay their own way. They have lost their spiritual eyes, ears, arms, and legs due to the lack of spiritual preparation to succeed for the Lord in the devil’s world. They are unaware of the many dangerous steps they take.

Their choices are not in accordance with divine truth because they have not been taught, and they have been lead to believe action comes before preparation. So often when believers get hurt in serving the Lord they want to throw in the towel and quit. They are not prepared for the disappointment and testing of the Christian life because the sustaining and instructing grace and knowledge of God was overlooked and under taught.

My charge to you is that you do not forsake the grace of God in 2010. Do not abandon the word of God. If you forsake the word of God you will abandon the grace of God, and you will find that paying your own way is a price you cannot afford. Do not be afraid to trust the Lord. He loves you with an everlasting love because of who he is. Redeem the time you have now in light of the eternity you may step into before tomorrow. Allow the grace of God to give rest to your soul. With all of this world’s problems bombarding you daily do not forget that God is still on the throne. Accept the grace provisions found in his promises and share the gospel truth with as many as you can. There are still people out there who are humble enough to accept the grace of God. Not only are there people who will receive his only salvation found in Jesus Christ, but there are believers who want to live out that salvation in obedience to the word of God.
